2025 at Retroelectric: A Year of Iconic Builds, Innovation and Community

As 2025 draws to a close and the new year begins, it’s a natural moment for reflection. At Retroelectric, this year has been one of momentum, creativity and reaffirmation of why we do what we do. Every project, conversation and mile driven has reinforced our belief that the future of mobility can honour the past, preserving their soul, design and emotion while reimagining how they’re powered.

Looking back over the last twelve months, one thing stands out above all else: the sheer variety and quality of projects we’ve been so fortunate to work on, and the incredible customers and partners who’ve trusted us with machines that mean the world to them.

Iconic Vehicles, Reimagined

Some projects define a year, and 2025 certainly delivered its share of those.

One of the standout builds was the electrification of a Toyota FJ40. A vehicle synonymous with rugged simplicity and go-anywhere capability, the FJ40 represents a different kind of icon. One built for adventure rather than elegance. Bringing electric power to such a purposeful machine was both a technical challenge and a creative opportunity. The result stayed true to the character of the original while delivering smooth, quiet torque perfectly suited to modern driving or off-road exploration.

Last year saw us working on an extraordinary piece of automotive history in a 1917-era Detroit Electric car. Electric from its conception, it was a clear reminder that electric mobility is not just a modern idea, but one deeply rooted in the earliest days of motoring.

Throughout 2025, we had the privilege of working on Porsche 911, 356 and 912 models, cars that are revered not just as vehicles, but as cultural artefacts. These projects demand absolute respect for originality, balance and feel. Every decision, from drivetrain integration to weight distribution, was made with one aim: to ensure that each car still feels like a Porsche, just one reimagined for a new era. I believe we succeeded in this aim.

These standout builds were joined by a growing portfolio of classic Land Rovers, Triumph GT6s, MGA and MGBs.

One-Offs That Stop You in Your Tracks

From pre-war electric vehicles to post-war British sports cars, the breadth of work undertaken this year highlights our focus on bespoke classic electric conversions rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.

While our core work focuses on classic cars, 2025 also reminded us how exciting one-off projects can be.

Among the most memorable was electrifying a car and a motorbike for a Royal Opera House stage production. Projects like this sit at the intersection of engineering, art and performance, and they challenged us to think differently. These builds weren’t just about transport as they brought simplicity, reliability and stage presence under very specific conditions. Seeing them play a role in a world-class cultural production was a genuine highlight of the year.

It’s these unexpected commissions that keep us sharp, pushing our technical boundaries while reinforcing the versatility of electric drivetrains across very different platforms.

Unforgettable Drives

Not all highlights happen in the workshop. Some of the most memorable moments of 2025 came from getting behind the wheel. Quiet early-morning drives, long sweeping roads, the contrast between classic interiors and modern, effortless power delivery are a reminder of why electric conversions are about more than sustainability or performance figures. They’re about pure enjoyment.

There’s something uniquely satisfying about piloting a beautifully restored classic through stunning landscapes, knowing it’s been given a new lease of life without compromising its identity. Those moments stay with us, long after the tools are put down.

Our Customers and Community

If there’s one thing we can say with certainty, it’s that none of this happens without our customers.

In 2025, we worked with some truly amazing people. The collectors, enthusiasts, families and individuals who all shared a common appreciation for craftsmanship and thoughtful engineering. Many came to us with deeply personal stories attached to their vehicles, and being entrusted with those stories is something we never take lightly.

Shere Hill Climb 2025

Beyond individual projects, the wider Retroelectric community continues to grow.

Conversations at events such as Shere Hillclimb or the various car and country shows we attended, messages online, shared photos and stories; all of it fuels what we do.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support, curiosity and enthusiasm shown throughout the year.

Looking Ahead to 2026

With demand continuing to grow for high-quality classic electric car conversions in the UK and beyond, 2026 is shaping up to be our most ambitious year yet.

As proud as we are of what 2025 delivered, we’re even more excited about what lies ahead.

2026 promises to be a big year with more fantastic projects, continued innovation in our drivetrains and systems, and further refinement of how we blend classic design with modern electric technology. We’re committed to pushing our work forward, not by chasing trends, but by deepening our understanding of what makes these vehicles special and how electric power can enhance that experience.

There are already exciting builds on the horizon, along with new ideas we can’t wait to share. Some will be familiar icons, others may surprise you, but all will carry the same Retroelectric philosophy.

More of the Same — and That’s a Good Thing

There are far too many highlights from 2025 to list in full. Too many conversations, drives, challenges and small victories that collectively made it a year to remember. But if there’s one thing we know for sure, it is that 2026 will be more of the same.

More iconic vehicles. More innovation. More unforgettable moments. And most importantly, more collaboration with the incredible customers, partners and a community who make Retroelectric what it is.

We can’t wait for what’s next, and we can’t wait to share the journey with you.
